Rajnath Singh Claims Unprecedented Development in Assam, Says Militancy Nearing End Under Modi Government

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh claims over 7,500 militants surrendered in Assam, highlighting BJP-led “unprecedented development” and weakening of militancy, terrorism, and naxalism. He criticises Congress over neglect, illegal immigration, and opposition to major projects like the Jagiroad semiconductor plant.

Rajnath Singh on Tuesday asserted that the BJP-led government had accelerated “unprecedented development” in Assam by restoring peace, claiming that more than 7,500 militants had laid down arms and returned to the mainstream. Addressing a rally in Tezpur for Asom Gana Parishad candidate Prithiraj Rabha, Singh said the Centre’s policies had significantly weakened militancy, terrorism, and naxalism across the country.

He stated that whether it is terrorism, naxalism, or militancy, all are heading towards the end under the Modi government. Singh further claimed that more than 500 militants have laid down arms and returned to the mainstream in the state, adding that the development witnessed under Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had been “magical.” He also praised efforts to free land from encroachers.

Targeting Congress, Singh accused the party of neglecting Assam and doubting its potential. Referring to criticism of major projects such as the Rs 27,000-crore semiconductor plant at Jagiroad, he said Congress leaders had mocked the BJP’s development agenda. He specifically criticised Priyank Kharge over remarks questioning the plant, alleging that Congress had abused the talent of Assam’s youth.

On the issue of illegal immigration, Singh stated that no illegal infiltrator would be able to stay in Assam. Later, at a rally in Dergaon for BJP candidate Mridul Dutta, he said Congress had given Assam a “stepmotherly treatment,” keeping it distant from Delhi, which ultimately led to its rejection by voters.

The remarks underscore the BJP-led government’s narrative of peace, development, and strong administrative action in Assam, positioning it as a decisive factor in the state’s political landscape.
